Proofpoint Announces Enterprise Archive Spring Release

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Proofpoint (News - Alert) is enabling organizations to leverage the Cloud with the launch of its Enterprise Archive Spring Release.

This latest announcement by the security-as-a-service provider also enhances organizations’ ability to address legal preservation challenges.

A new Content Collection module for Microsoft (News - Alert) SharePoint included in the new release allows legal teams to capture content that resides on Microsoft SharePoint servers. Once this content is captured, it is securely added to legal holds managed within Proofpoint Enterprise Archive.

This Content Collection module leverages technology from Proofpoint's Enterprise Governance product and is said to complement the company’s existing content collection module for networked file share collections.

Proofpoint has extended its enterprise archive solution to include the issuance and tracking of legal hold notifications. Legal teams can use this extended capability to completely automate custodian notification.

“Our Spring Release addresses the difficult challenges companies face as they attempt to leverage the cloud," said Darren Lee, vice president and general manager of archiving and governance. "Content Collection for SharePoint helps to control and preserve information that may be out of control, and legal hold notification helps to automate a process that's typically manual, inefficient and expensive.”

Commenting on the rationale of the launch, the company notes the Ninth Annual Litigation Trends Survey Report from Fulbright & Jaworski published February 2013.

This report indicates that over 70 percent of organizations rely on user-dependent methods for legal hold data collection and preservation.

The risks associated with user-dependent actions can be significantly decreased with Proofpoint's automated solution, which promises to create stronger process defensibility.

Proofpoint also offers the ability to utilize a virtualized appliance to serve as a trusted gateway to its Cloud-based archiving services.

“Overall, this release shows our focus on helping companies get to the Cloud – and enabling them to handle the tough use cases,” Lee added.

Proofpoint was in the news earlier this month for expanding its security solutions.
