CPA Global has gotten one step closer to a paperless intellectual property management system with its recent acquisition of electronic document management provider First To File.

The acquisition of First To File will allow CPA Global clients access to an IP-tailored electronic document management system through either an independent service or as part of CPA Global's IP management software solutions. The latter choice is nothing new since both companies have many clients that are using each other’s products in an integrated solution, however, the current level of integration between the products will increase with the new acquisition.

CPA Global's move to buy First To File is part of a developing trend among IP companies.

"There is a clear trend within the IP community to move from paper to electronic document storage, driven by technological advances and changing business practices, as well as cost and sustainability considerations," Peter Sewell, chief executive officer of CPA Global, said in a statement. "Clients have been increasingly seeking support of paperless IP management, and I'm delighted that CPA Global can now provide this as part of our portfolio of value-added IP management services, with the acquisition of First To File."

Sewell is confident that the acquisition with be beneficial not only to his own company, but to First To File, as well.

James Bergeron, chief executive officer of First To File, echoed Sewell's sentiment.
