Report: Business Phone Systems Changing the Way We Work

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

The introduction of a host of new, more sophisticated technology tools for today’s workforce has dynamically changed the way employees are getting their jobs done. Not only are workers armed with solutions to increase their productivity levels, but they’re also using technology as way to improve their work/life balance.

A new Frost & Sullivan research report sponsored by Verizon and Cisco (News - Alert), "Meetings Around the World II: Charting the Course of Advanced Collaboration," has uncovered new and evolving business trends, technology adoption and attitudes toward the modern work style.

Business phone systems being offered today provide a host of features and capabilities to support workers regardless of their location, or task. From unified inboxes, to video conferencing and VoIP technology - the benefits are endless.

According to the report, a number of professionals are leaning on advanced IP-enable collaboration tools to help provide a competitive advantage and improve their work/life balance.

These trends, Blair Crump, Verizon Business (News - Alert) group president of worldwide sales said, include telework and “how professionals around the world like to use technology to become more productive while meeting their goals of balancing life and work and reducing business travel."

On-the-go workers also noted that they enjoy access to collaboration technologies as a way to better manage stress and strain. Over half of the responses said these tools help them to gain better control over their busy lives while still keeping them in the loop and moving business forward whenever needed.

Another benefit is the reduced need to travel, thanks to collaboration technologies like conferencing – Web, or video – as an alternative to face-to-face meetings. The reduction in travel is also helping businesses and employees to become more environmentally responsible. More than half of respondents said a reduced carbon footprint for an organization and other environmental concerns are important.

Finally collaboration technologies are helping to increase telecommuting policies with 22 percent of respondents saying they telecommute on a daily basis and 61 percent noting their appreciation of the ability to work from anywhere.
