), a company that specializes in business phone system and VoIP PBX
solutions, has selected a session border controller (SBC) superset solution from Convergence (News
) to the access edge needs of its IP networks.
The solution, Convergence Session Manager, is being implemented within IBM (News
) BladeCenters along with Sylantro’s Synergy platform to deliver secure, reliable hosted PBX services.
A large number of businesses have begun to move their primary phone lines to IP
and still require a seamless PBX, Nuvio said in it announcement. This means the demand for “toll quality” hosted connections is also increasing. To meet this demand, Nuvio need a way to scale its access edge with absolute predictability. The company said Covergence (News
) Session Manager met that need as the industry's first session management solution designed for the access edge. The solution can now be embedded within industry-standard platforms such as the IBM BladeCenter.
Having the ability to locate where user SIP
traffic first enters the network, CSM can terminate, secure, control and manage large numbers of user connections efficiently and effectively. According to Nuvio, the access edge is more difficult to scale than the network core and the network-to-network peering boundary.
Nuvio recognized the vulnerability of the access edge and the increasing demand for quality hosted PBX services and other real-time applications, and picked Convergence’s solution to address both these points.
Jason Talley (News
), CEO at Nuvio, said the company is utilizing Sylantro’s synergy platform and the IBM BladeCenter to deliver features and capabilities beyond what is available with traditional separate voice and data networks.
Talley noted that the flexibility and architecture of the Covergence Session Manager allows Nuvio to move beyond simply voice applications and deliver other business communications services.
“The access edge requires the ability to connect large numbers of untrusted users to a multitude of real-time services, and today’s business environment is shifting towards securing those connections through industry-standard platforms such as the Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) chassis and the IBM BladeCenter,” said Bob O’Neil, president and CEO at Covergence, in a statement.
O’Neil continued: “The CSM is purpose-built to address the problems of the access edge and can be embedded within top industry-standard platforms. It enables Nuvio to scale the security, performance, quality and reliability of their hosted PBX service while utilizing the IBM BladeCenter for increased cost savings.”
