tw telecom Continues to Dominate Headlines with Latest Business Ethernet Announcement

By Carrie Schmelkin, TMCnet Web Editor

tw telecom (News - Alert) certainly knows a thing or two about keeping its name in the spotlight as evidenced by the fact that in the last several days, the Business Ethernet provider has been tapped by Red Anvil and Holliday Fenoglio Fowler for its services, and it has announced the launch of Enhanced Management, the first phase of its Intelligent Network service portfolio, nationwide. And this week has been no exception as tw telecom celebrated the fact that it has been awarded a contract from the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA (News - Alert)) for advanced voice, data and Internet services in Hawaii.

"We are pleased that GSA has selected tw telecom to provide highly reliable, flexible and cost-effective data services," said Ken Folderauer, president of Public Sector at tw telecom. "tw telecom's services will ensure that federal agencies in Hawaii have access to the benefits of an integrated data network that gives employees the most advanced services possible."

The contract, an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract (IDIQ) for multiple services, stipulates that tw telecom will provide federal agencies located anywhere in Hawaii with digital voice/voice-over-IP services; fully managed Business Ethernet services including E-Line Ethernet WAN service; Extended Native LAN (ENLAN) service; and Private Network Transport (PNT) service. Extending through December 2014, the contract also provisions for two one-year options. Agencies have the choice of ordering services through GSA or they can choose the direct order/direct bill method.

tw telecom, a company with more than a decade of experience in delivering Business Ethernet solutions to its customers over the company's fiber optic networks, can connect to nearly 16,000 buildings across the United States –more than any other competitor – thanks to its fiber optic networks. The company has one of the most robust portfolios of Business Ethernet solutions available in the industry today, delivering services from 2 Meg to 10 Gig, within the metro or across the country, and managing the customer's entire network doorstep to doorstep, according to company officials.

Aside from the recent announcements the company made in the past few days, tw telecom also announced this month that its newest Ethernet service solution designed to bring ubiquitous Business Ethernet reach across the United States to thousands of enterprise customers and buildings through a single Ethernet connection scalable to 10 Gig is now available.

"Carriers and cloud application service providers are recognizing the need for a secure and scalable network as they roll out business critical applications to their customers," said Tom Marx, president of tw telecom's Wholesale Services. "These infrastructure customers typically do not have their own network everywhere they need to go.  They look to tw telecom to deliver secure, scalable and trusted network solutions that tw telecom's Business Ethernet provides, as they deliver applications to their customers."
