It may only be one month into 2012, but for tw telecom (News - Alert) – a company specializing in business Ethernet products and services – a lot has certainly happened over the last few weeks.

In early January, tw telecom was awarded a contract from the U.S. General Services Administration, enabling the company to provide advanced voice, data and Internet services in California’s Region 9. And, just last week, tw telecom revealed it would expand its presence in Platform Equinix, a platform from data center provider Equinix (News - Alert) connecting enterprises and a variety of companies and network service providers to help them grow their businesses, enhance application performance and protect critical digital assets.

Meanwhile, tw telecom just returned from the AFCEA West Conference, an event themed around products, services and solutions for the military and its war-fighting strategies and operational platforms.

Next up on the agenda for tw telecom, a provider of managed networking solutions to businesses and organizations across the U.S., is ITEXPO (News - Alert) East 2012, dubbed as this year’s largest communications conference in the world. As a Gold Sponsor, tw telecom joins a lineup of sponsors representing the entire communications and technology industry at the show, taking place Jan. 31 to Feb. 3.

During a luncheon on Wednesday, Feb. 1, tw telecom’s Michael A. Rouleau, senior vice president of Business Development and Strategy, will be the keynote speaker. In his role at tw telecom, Rouleau is responsible for developing the company’s strategic direction and integrating new services and technologies over the next few years.

Prior to attending the Pacific Telecommunications Council (News - Alert) conference in early January, Rouleau expounded upon what he foresees for 2012 in the business Ethernet space. According to Rouleau, convergence – or the process of voice, data and Internet access being delivered to a business all over a single network connection – is expected to make waves in the telecommunications market in 2012, and even 2013. 

Come 2012, tw telecom will unveil the second phase of its Intelligent Network, the company’s latest project designed to give customers more control of their networks and IT expenditures by more cost-effectively and efficiently delivering new applications at a more rapid pace. The Intelligent Network will come into play for another of Rouleau’s trend predictions: big data, a term describing incrementally larger amounts of data, and the ability to retrieve it and use it more rapidly in analysis.

The last trend, according to Rouleau, will focus largely on new methods of networking. “In this new world — where applications reside outside of the realm of control of the CIO, in a third-party data center or hosted by another provider — they lose that control,” added Rouleau. “So we’ve been focused on how we can deliver to the customer a secure, scalable, predictable network experience in the cloud or third-party data center that’s just like having everything in house.”

Of course, ITEXPO East 2012 will be the perfect forum for tw telecom, and Rouleau, to delve deeper into these trends and discuss them with other attendees.

As many as 225 exhibitors are set to take the ITEXPO East exhibit floor, representing all sectors, service providers, contact center and telecom software companies, resellers, open source solution providers, testing and monitoring companies, billing providers and more.
