Pactolus Enhances Voice Service Quality for Gold Line Telemanagement

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Gold Line Telemanagement, a facilities-based prepaid service provider in Canada, has chosen Pactolus as a VoIP services vendor of choice, and a strategic partner.

Founded in 1994, Gold Line is an IP services retailer and wholesaler serving more than 70 percent of the market it operates in through 100,000 points of sale across North America. The company initially targeted specific consumer sectors with economical international dialing and native language features, reselling services from large telecom companies. At that time, Gold Line had little control over call quality and was challenged with fundamental issues such as dropped calls, incomplete calls and audibility fluctuations.

Gold Line was also a reseller of TDM-based services, which limited its breadth of subscriber services. Focusing on growing the company into a premium facilities-based service provider, Gold Line decided to evolve into a “one stop shop” with in-house control over all major aspects of its call quality, service development and delivery.

The management at Gold Line realized that in order to achieve this independent, quality control and expansion potential, the company had to migrate to a more powerful IP softswitch and service architecture, and deploy a comprehensive SIP-based voice service delivery platform and service creation environment.

After carefully evaluating the alternative service application approaches, Gold Line replaced its TDM-based services platform. The company picked the Pactolus solution both for the rapid time to market and proven scale of SIPware services, and for the advanced feature extensibility and adaptability the object-based RapidFLEX Service Creation Environment enabled.

By migrating its pre-existing services from TDM to Pactolus’ SIP-based Service Creation & Delivery Platform, Gold Line was able to control call quality, and quickly introduce important new user features, such as a new way to protect the subscriber's identity while simplifying their ability to place calls from any location.

Thanks to Pactolus platform, Gold Line is able to fully serve its rapidly-growing reseller channels, and also leverage its SIP connectivity by expanding its global network of POP and interconnects, which now include IP service POPs worldwide. The company’s prepaid, affinity and promotional calling card market share are all expanding, driven by innovative services based on Pactolus’ award-winning SIPware Calling Card application and RapidFLEX Service Delivery Platform.

Vivian Clark, Gold Line’s chief technology officer, noted in a case study that Pactolus gives Gold Line the ability to support new service providers, who in turn create and sell their own services independent of Gold Line. She recognized Pactolus as an invaluable partner that has been pivotal in the company’s expansion strategy, through which it has come full circle with its business model.

“We began a dozen years ago as an agent for larger service providers, and now we are a recognized leader in quality, innovation and reach,” she said.
