Sencha already has a reputation for creating tools and frameworks, which allow developers to make apps for a multi-device, BYOD setting. With the advent of HTML5, we all expected a safer and simpler Internet that would allow BYOD to thrive, but that has not always been the case, especially for small to mid-sized businesses. This is why Sencha created Sencha Space.
Sencha Space is different because it creates a secure setting with intuitive admin controls for local IT so that it can easily access users’ devices with standard APIs.
The APIs include:
- Invoke, which allows apps running inside a Sencha Space client to communicate and exchange data with each other.
- Secure data API, which allows you to securely encrypt data within their apps that are stored inside of Sencha Space.
- Sensors API within Sencha Space gives you device-level access to the GPS, accelerometer, compass, camera, and more.
- The Profile API allows apps to retrieve and update profile information (including presence) for users.
Because of these new APIs, local IT managers and in-house app-developers will find making and managing apps specific to one company to be easier and ensure the security of data across any devices that employees or customers bring to the network to use their proprietary apps.
The proliferation of smartphones and tablets—both corporate and personally owned—makes BYOD a topic more and more companies are choosing to talk about. Professionals will show an increase in productivity when they can choose which devices to use, as opposed to being forced to use one they may or may not be comfortable with, so decision makers are slowly getting on the BYOD bandwagon.
As far as choosing which BYOD approach to go with, businesses have two options – either let employees bring the devices of their choice or have IT determine and provide the electronics deemed okay to use on a network. Regardless of which route businesses choose to go with, Sencha Space offers one more option that makes it easier for IT to manage a fleet of personally-owned devices.
“Sencha has long focused on creating the tools and frameworks necessary to develop powerful applications that function in a multi-device, BYOD world,” said Abraham Elias, CTO of Sencha. “With Sencha Space, we’ve gone a step further, building an environment for mobile devices that provides efficiency and performance for end users and developers, while delivering the control and security that IT departments demand.”
