JDSU Provides Support to Chunghwa Telecom for Migration to LTE

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

The Telecommunications Laboratories of Chunghwa Telecom has selected the JDSU Signaling Analyzer Real Time to monitor and analyze the end-to-end performance of its 3G/HSPA wireless network, to ensure the highest quality of voice and data services, and to support the carrier's upcoming LTE (News - Alert)/4G trials.

Chunghwa is Taiwan's provider of mobile, fixed-line and Internet services, with a growing presence in mainland China and other major Asian markets.

"Before making the complex and tricky transition to LTE, we wanted to ensure customer satisfaction and loyalty by providing the best possible service with our existing 3G technology," said William Yang, associate researcher, Wireless Communication Lab, CHT-TL, in a statement.

"We originally chose SART to help us deploy and optimize our 3G network, and we were so impressed that we are significantly expanding the scope of its functions,” said Yang.

He said that unlike traditional troubleshooting tools, SART is easy to scale, inexpensive to customize, and allows the company to maximize the quality of the customer experience.

Officials with JDSU (News - Alert) said that CHT-TL will use SART for multi-interface and multi-protocol call trace, 24/7 monitoring of key performance indicators, and root-cause problem diagnosis.

Company officials said that the system enables users to focus both on high-level service assurance and on specific issues affecting individual customers. CHT-TL can easily tailor diagnostic queries and report formats that support any level of analysis.

"We are gratified by Chunghwa's confidence in our solution, a confidence shared by a growing number of service providers in Asia and Asia/Pacific," said Tom Smith (News - Alert), senior vice president in JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement business segment.

Smith said that the company is also pleased that its wireless test technology will be an integral part of Chunghwa's ambitious agenda, which is to spur its international growth by attracting customers with a diversity of exciting and fault-free services.

According to company officials, JDSU's test capabilities -- which measure, monitor, report and troubleshoot the customer quality of service, quality of experience and performance -- support the entire range of wireless and wireline telecommunications networks.

This includes evolving technologies such as LTE, Femtocell, VoIP, IMS and IPTV (News - Alert). JDSU's wireless, LTE and 4G test capabilities are widely recognized in the industry, including earning Informa's 2010 Best Network/Device Testing Product award for LTE.
