RadiSys, a company that specializes in ATCA-based solutions, recently announced that it won a Communications Solutions 2006 Product of the Year Award from Technology Marketing Corporation. The company was recognized for its Promentum ATCA SYS (News - Alert)-6010 platform.
In its announcement, RadiSys said that SYS-6010 is the first application-ready, 10-Gigabit Ethernet
fabric connectivity-enabling platform in the industry. The solution ties together a multitude of hardware building blocks, including a 10 GE switch and control module, dual-core compute module, SAS (News - Alert)-FC storage modules, SMT-1/OC-3, PDH and Gigabit line cards modules. SYS-6010 also includes a package of software applications, including a data path program that meets the requirements for next-generation performance.
SYS-6010 is just one solution in RadiSys’ Promentum ATCA family of products, made up of a fully-integrated, application-ready platform and modular building blocks that can be configured for a variety of applications. The company has adopted a strategy that goes beyond merely offering building blocks, however. Instead, Promentum products deliver a common managed platform for network element and dataplane applications.
Each year, editors at TMC (News - Alert) (publisher of the TMCnet.com Web site and several print publications including INTERNET TELEPHONY Magazine) bestow Communications Solutions Product of the Year awards on companies that have demonstrated vision, leadership and attention to detail.
“The winning companies have demonstrated a commitment to quality and the further development of the communications industry through their products or services,” said TMCnet assignment editor (and head of the judging committee) Patrick Barnard, in a statement.
Barnard added: “High honors are deserving of these winners. My congratulations to them and I look forward to seeing more innovative solutions from them as they continue to contribute to the future of the communications industry.”
Anthony Ambrose, vice president and general manager at RadiSys’ communications networks division, said that RadiSys is continuing to take a leadership role in the ATCA market.
“Delivering a common managed platform for network element and dataplane applications offers a significant benefit to our customers,” Ambrose said in a statement. “The SYS-6010 allows telecom equipment manufacturers to use the same managed platform for a variety of applications, reducing their overall development time by up to 50 percent and lower development, lifecycle and equipment costs.”
