RadiSys Kicks Off ATCA Worldwide Virtual Tradeshow

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

As the economy continues to stumble on its path toward recover, innovative ideas of the recent past are helping ease financial burdens of the present. One idea, the Virtual Tradeshow, has made impressive inroads in developing a forum to bring disparate yet like minded groups together without restrictions of space and travel costs.

RadiSys (News - Alert), a major provider of advanced embedded solutions for the communications networking and commercial systems markets for OEMs, systems integrators, and solution providers, is set to host an ATCA Worldwide Virtual Tradeshow gearing up today. The show, which begins at 11 a.m. EST, is designed with a line-up of industry insiders including leading experts from all levels of the ATCA industry.

The New York-based company has partnered with Enea, GoAhead Software, Intel, VirtualLogix and Wind River (News - Alert) to bring the event online from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. PST on Tuesday December 9, 2008.

First up this morning is a panel discussion  about ATCA. Now that the technology has become a full standard, the focus is shifting to performance and market factors.  Joe Pavlat (News - Alert), of Open Systems, will moderate over the panel discussions focused on the future of ATCA technology revolving around hardware, operating systems, and middleware. Among other subjects will be: How soon will the industry move from 10 to 40G and What role is the CP-TA playing in translating the standard into market adoption?

Other subjects on tap are Open Source: Linux may be the de facto operating system standard, but what versions of Linux are vendors selecting for carrier grade reliability and fault tolerance? What middleware solutions are available to increase reliability and high availability on ATCA systems? Are we at the point where equipment manufacturers can truly buy a carrier-grade off-the-shelf solution for their applications? Joe Pavlat of Open Systems moderates.

Following the first session there is scheduled a Panel Session called, “ATCA Service Provider Strategies” with Dan O'Shea editor of FierceTelecom. If you are interested in getting a  firsthand perspective on ATCA and a comprehensive look at how ATCA impacts carrier business models, both at a Tier 1 operator level and at Tier 2 or 3 carriers, this session is for you.

O'Shea will facilitate discussions on how broadly ATCA information has penetrated carrier organizations, and how service providers new to ATCA can get started on projects. Join the major players of the service provider community as they discuss and breakdown the impact of ATCA, the benefits of COTS and universal standards, and what they have learned when implementing ATCA.

The Keynote Address: “ATCA – Beyond the Tipping Point” will follow at is scheduled for 12 p.m. EST. The address will be giving by Anthony Ambrose, vice president and general manager of Communications Networks at RadiSys.
