RadiSys Launches ATCA Remote Demo and Test Facility

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

RadiSys Corporation, a global provider of advanced embedded solutions, has launched what it claims is the industry’s first lab for use by global ecosystem partners and customers so that they may remotely perform initial validation, testing, and demonstrations of their unique solutions on RadiSys AdvancedTCA (News - Alert) (ATCA) systems.

The new facility, dubbed the REDI (RadiSys Ecosystem Demonstration and Interoperability) Lab, is available 24/7 and accessed via a dedicated, secure broadband connection.

The customized lab is physically located at company headquarters in Hillsboro, Oregon, and is outfitted with the RadiSys (News - Alert) Promentum ATCA application-ready platform using the latest hardware and software.

The REDI Lab has already cut dramatically — from several weeks to hours — the time that RadiSys and its partners previously dedicated to initial up-front testing and self-validation, as well as preparing for, and conducting, sales demonstrations.

The high-resolution Webcam, for instance, enables RadiSys partners to observe platform activity, in real time, during software integration and self-validation sessions as well as perform remote demos to showcase product features to their customers.

A significant benefit of the REDI Lab is that it gives Telecom Equipment Manufacturers (TEMS) the assurance that initial validation has already been performed so that their engineering teams won’t be starting from ground zero.

The REDI Lab affords partners quick, efficient, “first-look” interoperability testing and validation of their specific configurations for a specific customer.

“The REDI Lab provided live access to a wide variety of RadiSys ATCA systems without ever having to board an airplane,” said Steve Looby, director of product management for SANBlaze (News - Alert) Technology, in a statement.

Looby continued: “With secure remote login and video links, our Boston-based engineering team was able to test our ATCA storage cards with several RadiSys ATCA carrier blades located 3,000 miles away in Hillsboro, Oregon. The lab proved a very creative answer to shrinking interoperability test budgets and rising travel and shipment costs.”

RadiSys is a global provider of advanced embedded solutions for the communications networking and commercial systems markets. Through intimate customer collaboration and combining innovative technologies and industry leading architecture, RadiSys helps original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), systems integrators, and solution providers bring better products to market faster and more economically.

RadiSys products include embedded boards, application enabling platforms, the OS-9 operating system, and turn-key systems, which are used in today's complex computing, processing, and network-intensive applications.
