RadiSys Convedia Media Servers Earn Top Rankings from Infonetics, iLocus

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Contributor

AdvancedTCA (News - Alert) solutions specialist RadiSys recently reported that its Convedia line of media servers was, once again, named a market leading product by two research and consulting firms.

The ranking was part of Infonetics Research’s second quarter 2006 report of next-generation voice and IMS equipment, as well as iLocus’ second quarter 2006 carrier VoIP equipment update.

According to the iLocus findings, Convedia media servers captured 48 percent of the IP media server market. Infonetics reached a similar conclusion, listing Convedia as the number one media server in terms of deployed ports—the ninth consecutive quarter it earned that ranking.

The Infonetics report also noted that, as advanced network features continue to be developed and deployed, media servers will continue playing a vital role in the industry.

”Media servers are a critical component in IMS deployments and VoIP networks and are enabling telecommunication service providers to deliver a broad range of value-added multimedia services to their residential and business customers,” RadiSys President and CEO Scott Grout said in a statement.

Those services include voice, video and multimedia offerings from fixed, mobile and cable providers, using both IMS and pre-IMS architectures.

Reducing infrastructure and operating costs, while delivering new services, is key for service providers and enterprise customers alike. Convedia media servers are helping fill that need; the product lines is now deployed to more than 200 customers worldwide, which includes many Fortune 500 companies.

Convedia servers pull together a range of media processing capabilities, and are IP Multimedia Subsystem (News - Alert) (IMS) compliant, making them ideal for sharing media resources on any VoIP network.

RadiSys acquired Convedia in September.
