AdvancedTCA's 'ATCA' Evolution to 40G is CP-TA Focus at November Summit

By Hans Lewis, TMCnet Contributor

The focus will be will to promote AdvancedTCA’s (News - Alert) “ATCA” evolution to 40G by driving interoperability initiatives during the AdvancedTCA Summit November 9-11 this week in Santa Clara. The Summit is organized by the Communications Platforms Trade Association (News - Alert) “CP-TA”, a global organization of companies dedicated to accelerating the adoption of open specification-based xTCA platforms,

“Sync-E and IEEE1588v2 are covering new ground in ATCA to meet these requirements, and data transport and synchronization will become more complex in 40GbE,” said Sven

Freudenfeld, CP-TA board president and Kontron (News - Alert) telecom business developer. “As it has always done, CP-TA is evolving to meet the needs of the xTCA ecosystem. We look forward to continuing to work to create interoperability guidelines and test tools around 40G platforms.”

Freudenfeld will discuss the urgency of deploying 40G systems and how CP-TA is helping provide a smooth transition during this week’s AdvancedTCA Summit.

As mobile networks continue to provide higher access speeds and countless wireless customers continue to sign up around the world, service providers are looking to provide more bandwidth through higher-frequency platforms. ATCA is standards-based hardware architecture that is scalable up to 40G and potentially beyond.

CP-TA members recognize the need to improve interoperability guidance as new ATCA blades with higher memory density, higher compute performance, and multiple options for the fabric interface become available. The new applications intended to use 40GbE standards-based platforms will require new switching features and will support an all-IP infrastructure.

Mobixell (News - Alert), also recently announced a converged mobile data IP traffic balancing software solution that is designed to help reduce cost of ownership of mobile infrastructure and traffic management.
