Anyone that has seen a disaster recovery scenario on TV can see how difficult it is for everyone involved to stay in touch. Having the ability to communicate properly can literally mean the difference between life and death. In a lot of cases there will be a lot of people using their cell phones to take and post pictures, call their loved ones, and the result is that the cell tower is flooded providing spotty service.
Three companies have joined forces to deliver a solution which can be used by the military and public safety organizations. Radisys Corporation, the services acceleration company, in collaboration with Octasic (News - Alert) Inc. and Quortus, have created a ruggedized mobile networking solution capable of delivering 4G/LTE, 3G and 2G networks for rapid, ubiquitous coverage.
Octasic is a leading provider of system on a chip (SoC), software, as well as integrated hardware and software platforms for the mobile wireless and media processing markets. Quortus enables flexible, quick-thinking mobile communications networks that provide a foundation for innovative services tailored to a diverse range of end customers. Together they deliver Multi-Radio Network-in-a-Box (News - Alert).
Unfortunately, we are witnessing more unrest around the world and this solution is definitely something that the military can use to remain in constant contact. This is possible because the Multi-Radio Network-in-a-Box:
- Integrates Radisys’ TOTALeNodeB LTE (News - Alert) small cell and Femtotality 3G/HSPA+ femtocell protocol software and applications;
- Delivers complete turnkey 4G/LTE and 3G small cell solutions
- Enables Application, RRM, SON, OA&M, Timing functionality and the underlying protocol stacks
- Features Octasic’s OCTBTS family of base station platforms;
- Offers ready-to-deploy Software Defined Radio (SDR) systems powered by the OCT2224W small cell system-on-a-chip (SoC);
- Supports a wide range of frequencies between 400 MHz and 6 GHz;
- Incorporates Octasic’s flexiPHY software suite for 4G, 3G and 2G cellular standards;
- Supports 4G, 3G and 2G radio networks;
- Provides all of the functions required of a 3GPP 4G EPC, specifically the MME, SGW, PGW, PCRF and HSS;
- Supports critical communications features such as in-session mobility, multicast/broadcast and node meshing; and
- Provides scalability from embedded single channel devices to thousands of simultaneous media sessions.
The application deployment solution, which enables the rapid deployment of an end-to-end LTE network in a compact, ruggedized form factor is currently available and ready for use. Whether it is first responders at a fire or earthquake, or a military operation, there is no denying the fact that constant and quality mobile communication is necessary. The fact that the Multi-Radio Network-in-a-Box can be used in a drone, a vehicle or a backpack makes it a perfect option, as well as a solution that is much needed.
