WebConnect JAVA – a JSR-309-compliant adapter that can be used with the Radisys Media Resource Function (MRF) product line – is now available. That’s welcome news for Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE) application developers, who can use Radisys WebConnect for services they are developing.
“This supports a significant expansion not only in the scale of these services, but their performance too,” the company said in a statement.
This leads to a solution, too, that “supports IP multimedia packet processing across both OTT [Over The Top] and IMS [IP Multimedia Subsystem (News - Alert)] architectures for a wide range of interactive services, including VoLTE, WebRTC, conferencing, and network transcoding use cases,” the company added.
JSR-309 is an API for media server control, which offers an interface that leads to applications with interactive voice response, conferencing and speech recognition.
Ari Banerjee (News - Alert), an analyst at Heavy Reading, the research division of Light Reading, noted that Service Delivery Platforms (SDP) based on Java EE are “increasingly being utilized to support real-time telecommunication services – particularly for OTT and WebRTC.”
“The entry of a media processing leader like Radisys adding JSR-309 compliance across its MRF platforms provides OTT service providers and mobile operators with a well-supported range of media processing options to choose from,” he added.
Radisys, which is a Unicom Engineering client, explained that real-time communication (RTC) services were developed and used on application server platforms meeting IMS standards. But now, there is more development of interactive communication services, such as OTT and WebRTC, on Web application servers, which are based on such Internet communication and programming standards as Java.
That use of Java EE leads to many economic and performance advantages.
“Adding support for JSR-309 was a simple decision as many of the leading Web application server platforms on the market today are Java EE based,” Grant Henderson, vice president of Marketing and Product Management at Radisys, explained in the statement.
