UNICOM (News - Alert) Engineering, a Canton, MA-based provider of technology products and services for software developers and original equipment manufacturers worldwide, is expanding its present manufacturing facility to 44,000 square feet, it was recently announced. As part of the expansion effort, the company is also planning new hires.
According to a report from the Boston Business Journal, the expansion project is nearing completion. Sources say the $312,000 undertaking is set to be finished by month’s end.
UNICOM Engineering (UE) is a division of California-based UNICOM Global. UE currently employs about 120 people in Canton and will add up to 10 more by year’s end, according to a statement by VP of global manufacturing operations, Bill O'Connell.
The expansion is the latest in a series of positive moves by parent company UNICOM Global. This past March, UNICOM Systems, Inc., a division of UNICOM Global, announced that it had acquired Data Management Software and Services assets from Memeo, Inc., in an all-cash transaction. The acquisition included innovative technology and the most robust, enterprise-grade, secure file-sharing solution in the industry, combined with an impressive array of engineering talent.
“Memeo is a strategic acquisition for UNICOM,” commented Corry Hong at the time; Hong is founder, president and CEO of UNICOM Global. “The talented team at Memeo has created the Memeo C1 solution to deliver Secure File Sharing in the Cloud or on-premise, with the enterprise-hardened tools to administer full security and audit capabilities businesses require.”
Back in Massachusetts, the Canton office of UE houses manufacturing employees as well as corporate finance staff, engineering and customer service staff, VP O'Connell noted. The employees manufacture, test, repair and refurbish PC servers at that location, he said.
All told, the company is spending $205,000 on improvements to the manufacturing facility and $107,000 on capital equipment as part of the expansion, according to documents released by UE.
The company also has offices in Plano, Texas, and Galway, Ireland.
