VDIworks Offloads CPU Graphical Processing with NVIDIA GRID

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

By leveraging the features of NVIDIA’s (News - Alert) GRID technology and Microsoft RemoteFX, VDIworks  announced that its Virtual Desktop Platform has been modified to cater to enterprises that are looking for a mid to high-end VDI.

Saad Hussain, president and chief executive officer at VDIworks, said in a statement that, “One of the major barriers to Virtual Desktop adoption has been the need to have a true PC like experience with decent to high end graphics. With the NVIDIA GRID technology, we now have the ability to offload graphical processing from the CPU to the GPU delivering a true PC-like experience and enhancing the density of the back-end infrastructure. Coupled with Windows Server 2012, RemoteFX and our Virtual Desktop Platform  is an ideal solution for Enterprises seeking mid to high end VDI.”

The VDIworks Virtual Desktop Platform is an end-to-end VDI management system designed to create, deploy and manage virtual desktop environments, offering connection brokering, VM management, performance alerting, resource health monitoring, physical device management and support for a variety of remote access protocols, all in a pre-integrated application. It supports both Linux and Windows Embedded thin clients and all major hypervisors, including VMware ESX, KVM, Xen and Microsoft (News - Alert) Hyper-V.

NVIDIA explained that its GRID technology enables the offloading of graphics processing from the CPU to the GPU in virtualized environments, allowing the data center manager to deliver true PC graphics-rich experiences to more users.

Meanwhile, the Microsoft RemoteFX is a new set of end-user experience enhancements for Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), which are designed to provide a rich desktop environment within a user’s corporate network.

The VDIworks’ solution now features support for high end graphics using the NVIDIA GRID technology and the capability to deliver virtual sessions through RDP 8.0 and RemoteFX for performance that is equal to that of a PC’s.
