VINCI Energies Deploys Fortinet Security Appliances to Secure Remote Sites

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Fortinet (News - Alert), which provides security appliance deployment solutions, has been selected by VINCI Energies, the energy business line of VINCI group, to standardize and secure that company’s remote sites network across France.

VINCI Energies, one of the top European market players of services related to energy and information technology, deployed more than 850 FortiGate appliances. The company was impressed with the efficacy, reliability, performance and ease of administration of FortiGate appliances.

The company has implemented 850 FortiGate-60Cs, eight FortiGate-300Cs and four FortiGate-100Ds in more than 860 VINCI Energies remote sites in France.

FortiGate appliances deliver firewall capabilities for protecting Internet access locally. They also provide IPSec VPN and policy-based routing to deliver secure access to groups business applications from any site in case of fault or unavailability of the MPLS network.

VINCI Energies also benefits from centralized management for all the security appliances deployed in France. Some of the additional features powered by FortiGate appliances include antivirus and IPS for Internet attack detection and mitigation and support for both IPv4 and IPv6, offering the same level of security on its IPv6 Intranet as well as on the rest of its network.

“Fortinet's FortiGate systems proved to be technically superior to competing solutions both in terms of performance and reliability,” said Dominique Tessaro, head of Information Systems at VINCI Energies, in a statement. “For a deployment of over 850 appliances, the selected vendor had to give us confidence on the reliability of its hardware, and Fortinet clearly did.”

The security appliance deployment was carried out with Axians, a networking and telecoms integrator and a subsidiary of VINCI Energies.  The FortiGate appliances are remotely managed by Axians through the FortiManager-3000C, a complete and easy-to-use centralized management system.

"The large deployment scale of our FortiGate network security appliances at VINCI Energies shows that they can perfectly meet the highest expectations of large enterprises in terms of performance and security," added Patrice Perche, senior vice president of International Sales and Support at Fortinet.
