With a focus on school districts, Bottle Rocket (News - Alert) from Lightspeed Systems touts itself as a low-cost Web filtering solution, the latest in appliance deployment-based filtering that is targeted towards school districts and uses up to an average of 150 Mb of sustained bandwidth.
Lightspeed was faced with a challenge when the company chose to provide an advanced line of appliances for Bottle Rocket, a process that would be difficult given the difficulties associated with appliance-based software development. To address this, Bottle Rocket turned to NEI (News - Alert), a provider of purpose-built application platforms, appliances and lifecycle deployment services.
What NEI was able to do for Lightspeed Systems was eliminate the need for months of development, providing a solution that not only got to market quickly but also allowed for simple management and deployment of the company’s Web-filtering software.
“NEI helped us bring the Bottle Rocket to market in a matter of weeks,” said Rob Chambers, vice president of product development at Lightspeed Systems. “It was important to Lightspeed that we work with a company that had considerable experience and expertise in appliance development and could address both the hardware and software issues that we knew would arise during this process.”
The appliance deployment provider’s Lifecycle Engine for Application Deployment (LEAD) model helped develop and deliver Bottle Rocket in less than 60 days. For Lightspeed Systems, this meant a more effective design and a better product with which to compete in the market while serving their customer base in the most efficient way possible, according to a blog post.
When teaming with NEI, users can take advantage of easy configuration and compatibility, along with a low cost of ownership. Appliance-based software also guarantees stability which means freeing users from having to worry about resolving potentially complex OS compatibility issues.
For Lightspeed Systems, NEI provided multiple benefits. Future looking models will be able to be delivered even faster, thanks to the already developed deployment platform.
