Avanade in Pact with Microsoft to Deliver New SQL Server Appliance Deployment Solutions

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Avanade, a provider of business technology solutions and managed services, has just inked a partnership with Microsoft (News - Alert) to develop and deliver new SQL server appliance deployment solutions for business intelligence and data warehousing.

Both companies will work together to develop industry solutions specifically for the new data warehouse appliance optimized for the SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse. This effort will enable enterprises to easily manage their data both on premises and via cloud computing services.

The new data appliance deployment solution allows companies to scale their IT infrastructure to meet increasing business needs to turn vast volumes of data into relevant information, according to company officials.

"With thousands of successful Microsoft implementations worldwide, Avanade has deep expertise in helping customers achieve business results with Microsoft technologies such as SQL Server,” said Eduardo Rosini, corporate vice president, SQL Server Marketing, at Microsoft, in a statement.

“Microsoft's work with Avanade will create new appliances and solutions that will streamline and transform data infrastructures,” Rosini added. “These efforts will help large enterprises use data to improve business performance and better serve their customers."

Under the terms of this agreement, Avanade will create a dedicated SQL Server Appliance deployment practice to develop solutions and services for the global market. The company will also train more than 350 developers and sales professionals on the SQL Server appliances platform to support joint offerings and sales efforts.

With appliances expected to account for approximately 40 percent of database growth in the next three years, the new practice represents a large growth opportunity.

"Microsoft's SQL Server is an enterprise-class business intelligence platform well positioned to manage the prolific increase in content and data that is drowning the enterprise,” said Mick Slattery, executive vice president, Global Service Lines at Avanade. “The key is turning data into knowledge to create true competitive advantage.”

“Our relationship with Microsoft will produce industry-specific offerings that further extend the platform's capabilities to help organizations gain greater value from their data by effectively managing, analyzing, and securing data," Slattery added.
