Fortinet (News - Alert), a provider of network appliance deployment solutions, has just released its FortiWeb Web application firewall (WAF) family for enterprises, application service, software-as-a-service (SaaS (News - Alert)) and managed security service providers (MSSPs).
Fortinet's Web application firewall appliances integrate a Web vulnerability scanner and advanced application load balancing features into a single device. This device greatly reduces appliance deployment time and resource utilization while improving application performance, according to company officials.
The company also announced the FortiWeb-3000CFsx appliance, which enables large enterprises, application service and cloud-based service providers to have access to an enhanced appliance deployment solution through its fiber fail open interface.
"Our worldwide customer base has made it clear that Web application protection is a very high priority," said Michael Xie, founder, CTO and vice president of engineering at Fortinet, in a statement.
Considering IT and security resource constraints, clients are looking for an appliance deployment solution that can consolidate key functionality into a single, multi-purpose appliance while delivering optimal data protection and maximum resource utilization, according to Xie.
“The introduction of our new FortiWeb product family underscores our commitment to meeting global customer demands,” Xie added.
Integrating WAF and Web vulnerability scanners, FortiWeb 4.0 MR3 is an ideal appliance deployment solution for organizations subject to Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI (News - Alert)-DSS) 6.6, data breach notification requirements such as California State Assembly Bill 1386 or HIPAA compliance, company officials said.
FortiWeb 4.0 MR3 also features advanced data compression capabilities to improve bandwidth utilization and user response times as well as the overall performance of application delivery, company officials said.
Other important features of the appliance deployment solution include: period blocking that enables administrators to block users for specified periods of time rather than denying access on the basis of a particular connection, and new load balancing enhancements that provide content-based "health checks" and offer additional alerts in the event of a server failure.
In addition, the FortiWeb family of appliance deployment solution also features an updated and simplified user interface that emulates the FortiGate consolidated security appliances from Fortinet. This feature simplifies system configuration and supports usability features such as error page customization.
