NEI Unveils High-Performance, Long-Life Appliance Platform
By Marisa Torrieri, TMCnet Editor
NEI – which makes application platforms, appliances and support services for software developers, OEMs and service providers worldwide – on Monday announced the availability of a new high-performance 1U server appliance for enterprise-class application deployments.
The S-1900 R2 appliance combines dual multi-core Intel (News - Alert) Xeon 5500 processor performance with integrated hardware RAID and dual redundant 650W AC power supplies, which, according to the Canton, Mass.-based company, maximizes reliability and uptime for business-critical applications.
“Today’s complex IT environment demands reliable, affordable appliance solutions designed for long-life use and maximum uptime,” said Jeff Hudgins, vice president of marketing for NEI. “By combining the latest Intel technology with other leading-edge drive and storage components, the S-1900 R2 gives software developers a deployment vehicle on which they can promise their customers higher reliability and more affordable performance.”
The S-1900 R2’s key features include four hot swap SATA/SAS (News - Alert) hard drives (for up to four terabytes of storage); 12 DDR3 memory slots that store up to 96 GB of total memory; two full-height, full-length PCIe slots and one low profile expansion slot.
The platform also supports up to eight processing cores per system and can host either Microsoft (News - Alert) Windows or Linux-based operating systems – and is designed to complement NEI’s Smart Services software console.
With the S-1900 R2 installed, users have a more reliable platform for data and video storage applications, network and Web security, IP communications and other enterprise applications.
Evaluation units of the S-1900 R2 are immediately available with production quantities expected through 2013. Base-configuration pricing starts at $2,150 each. The S-1900 R2 comes with a two-year limited warranty that may be supplemented by a variety of technical support plans.
