Radware Enhances Web Performance for UK Retailer's Websites

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

JD Williams, an Internet and catalog home shopping company, has deployed Radware’s (News - Alert) FastView technology to reduce page load times for its websites by more than 25 percent. Radware specializes in application delivery and application security solutions for virtual and cloud data centers.

The U.K.-based home shopping company serves about six million customers. It felt the need to enhance its offerings to match the requirements of tablets and smartphone devices and to provide a richer multi-channel experience to its customers. JD Williams operates 28 brand websites that can be accessed on desktops, tablets and mobile devices.

The company wanted to make its websites more productive by delivering larger images via smaller communication links. If a website is not able to bring forth a requested page quickly, a prospective customer may be lost as his or her interest gets diverted. As browsers expect almost instant website page loads, FastView is expected to improve customer experience by reducing page response times.

Neil McGowan, IT Director for JD Williams said, “Engagement and conversion rates are affected by the speed in which a website responds to the customer. As content gets more complex the technical challenge increases and website performance degrades.”

Radware made an initial assessment of JD William’s needs and charted out recommendations to enhance the customer experience for both mobile and desktop users.

The FastView solution implemented by Radware helped JD Williams to enable performance predictability and maintain high application SLA at all times. The number of server requests per page and response payload was reduced significantly. This resulted in higher conversion rates and improved website response-time performance, for media-rich Web applications that were accessed on mobile devices.

It was also announced that Radware had recently joined hands with OJSC VimpelCom to announce a new service for business customers called ‘Protection from DDoS attacks.’ The service is based on Radware’s Attack Mitigation System (AMS), a real-time network and application security solution.

DDoS attacks have become increasingly complicated and legacy defense systems not only fail to prevent these attacks, but oftentimes become the target. Today’s mitigation against DDoS attacks requires specifically tailored products. Radware’s DefensePro and AMS successfully solve this problem by enabling full automatic protection in seconds.
