Area Data Systems Unveils CiB Storage Platform for Nexenta Systems
By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor
Area Data Systems, a developer of storage architecture for enterprise data solutions, has launched a certified Cluster-in-a-Box (News - Alert) (CiB) storage platform, the NX-0470, for Nexenta Systems, a provider of software defined storage solutions.
The new platform is based on HA Cluster, a feature available in NexentaStor. This will enable dual-node clustering with hybrid storage features, designed to avoid problems due to single point failure. The new CiB storage platform will enable data centers and big data customers to benefit from a massively scalable storage solution.
Being a Nexenta premium partner allows Area Data Systems to make out-of-the-box NexentaStor deployments of up to 280TB, which are in ready-to-run form. The CiB can condense the typical HA cluster server and deliver shared storage. This benefits IT administrators looking to scale more intelligently, efficiently and cost-effectively, the company said.
Area Data Systems has launched the CiB in two models: the NX-9220 and NX-9470, which are available as a clustered shared storage solution in a single chassis.
According to officials, the models feature NexentaStor in an HA-cluster with two individual dual-socket Intel (News - Alert) Xeon server nodes that come located adjacently in a single enclosure. Also, a shared storage pool of hybrid storage drives is present for enabling auto-tiering or flash-based auto-caching.
In case one cluster node fails, the other node will automatically take over, thereby reducing downtime and enhancing business continuity. Also, the CiB platform occupies less space and is easy to deploy owing to its modular design.
Bridget Warwick, CMO at Nexenta said, “Utilizing the unified storage capabilities of NexentaStor, the NX-9470 offers data center and big data customers a massively scalable storage solution with a virtually unlimited number of snapshots, flexibility, and high granularity of data protection. We see the Cluster-in-a-Box as an innovative design and are looking forward to more platform advancements in the future by our many partners, including Area Data Systems.”
William Huang, President of Area Data Systems commented, “The NX-9470 is an easy to deploy cableless design that delivers an instant 280TB of highly available capacity using NexentaStor, which can enable up to 3PB (petabytes) of capacity in a standard rackmount cabinet.”
The NX-9220, meanwhile, is a 12-bay dual-node model that utilizes the high availability and resiliency of NexentaStor to furnish a plug-and-play unified storage solution for small to mid-sized businesses and remote branch office deployments.
Recently, Nexenta launched a virtual storage appliance and flash cache product that can be used in virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) deployments. It is designed to boost hardware performance by managing host memory as a flash cache for virtual desktop operations.
