Envivio (News - Alert), a provider of live and on-demand multi-screen IP video processing and delivery solutions, has recently deployed its 4Caster G4 encoding appliance which is part of its Muse software-based encoder family.
The new encoding appliance is a high performance computing (HPC) system. It offers six times more density compared to the current platform and can handle up to 72 SD or 12 HD channels per 2RU chassis. It also has the potential for future density improvements.
"Envivio 4Caster G4 is the most powerful encoding platform that we have ever offered. With this high performance system, we are providing a broader range of interfaces, the largest number of output formats and the option of high quality or high density configurations," said Julien Signès, president and CEO of Envivio.
Featuring redundant power supplies and hot-swappable nodes, the video encoder appliance is ideal for deployment scenarios within the broadcast, cable, satellite and telco environments.
Muse Live and 4Caster G4 offer an ideal alternative to hardware-based compression solutions that require separate platforms to address high-quality, high-density or multi screen and traditional requirements. These offerings can address all of these requirements in a single system.
The 4Caster G4 applianceis also an ideal platform for powering high-quality TV services at existing pay-TV operators. In addition, the appliance supports other devices such as tablets or smartphones, either now or later in their deployment cycle.
With its ability to support next-generation codecs such as HEVC, the robust solution reduces deployment costs, power consumption and rack space requirements and supports a wide range of interfaces such as IP, ASI and SD/HD-SDI.
Currently available in two codec configurations across all output formats including Extreme and Premium, the former features latest generation statistical rate control for variable bit-rate applications and optimizes video quality for the most demanding HDTV content while Premium maximizes density for a highly cost-effective solution.
Demonstrating the effectiveness of the platform, Envivio recently deployed the Envivio Muse encoding solutions at Viaplay, an online service for TV, film and sport in the Nordics. Viaplay is part of Modern Times Group (MTG), an international entertainment broadcasting group with operations that span four continents and include free-TV, pay-TV, radio and content production businesses.
