Appliance Deployment Is Smarter In the Cloud

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Most of the experts agree: cloud computing will, in fact, transform the way appliances are developed, deployed and maintained.

According to officials of NEI, however, you need an effective means for updating and provisioning along with your cloud deployments; otherwise, it can drive up cloud computing costs and there go your profits. And wasn’t that the reason you switched to cloud in the first place?

So to help you with that, NEI’s (News - Alert) featuring its Application Management software, which is designed to help solve cloud computing problems by automating updates. In fact, NEI can professionally assess your cloud deployment approach and offer some ways you can be doing things better.

One way to think of cloud computing is as a natural extension of virtualization, according to a informative video presentation put together by NEI. It’s a great way to reduce fixed operating costs, and get more flexibility in the process. But if you deploy without the proper licensing and billing systems in place, NEI officials warn, you could be missing out on a lot of the revenue you’d otherwise get.

And if you don’t have effective means for updating and provisioning with your cloud deployment, well, you’re probably paying more in support costs than you need to be.

Bear in mind, NEI officials say, that the cloud is – or should be – an extension of your existing strategy for getting your apps to market, and not the only means. Integration is key, so you’re not creating separate software stacks for each delivery method. NEI can show you how to accomplish that with a single controlled image that is easily licensed and provisioned in the cloud. NEI can also save you time and money with its application management software, through the automation of updates.

In early August, TMCnet reported that NEI received the ISO 14001:2004 environmental management certification at two of its manufacturing facilities, one located in Canton, Massachusetts and the other in Plano, Texas. In addition, the company’s other facility in Galway, Ireland is expected to achieve the same certification sometime next month.

Want to learn more about cloud communications? Then be sure to attend the Cloud Communications Summit, collocated with TMC’s (News - Alert) ITEXPO West 2011, taking place Sept. 13-15, 2011, in Austin, Texas. The Cloud Communications Summit will address a growing need of businesses to integrate and leverage cloud based communications applications, process enhancement techniques, and network based communications interfaces and architectures.
