Metaswitch Gives Service Broker Product New Capabilities

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Metaswitch, a provider of advanced carrier services and communications software solutions, today announced the addition of significant enhancements to its "Service Broker" product.

Officials with Metaswitch said that the new features extend the company's position in application-to-network interworking. This feature is increasingly in demand by wireline and wireless carriers as they introduce next-generation interactive voice, video and messaging services based on 3G/4G and NGN/IMS architectures.

Company officials said that the Service Broker's new capabilities ease the transition from legacy intelligent network to next-generation environments, speeding time-to-market and reducing capital expenditure.

As a result, the Service Broker is a must-have element in any network transformation strategy.

Service brokers are increasingly being recognized as a superior way to deploy and manage disparate new and existing applications in any carrier network.

The Metaswitch Service Broker is a critical network element which incorporates all of the signaling, media and the feature interworking between disparate networks that converged and consolidated applications require.

"We believe strongly in the service broker market, and that, with our acquisition of AppTrigger earlier this year, we have the best solution for that market bar none," said Kevin DeNuccio (News - Alert), chief executive officer, Metaswitch, in a statement.

DeNuccio said that this is why the company is continuing to invest heavily in the product to maintain its position as innovators and technology leaders in the service broker space.

"Convergence (News - Alert) and social networking are the current key disruptions within the telecom landscape while voice remains the number one social networking application today," said Chris Todd, senior vice president and general manager for the Metaswitch Service Broker Division.

Todd said that service providers must balance and marry new services with the existing applications and networks of today without losing revenue in the process.

"Metaswitch's Service Broker uniquely enables this migration with its pre-defined interworking support for the 21 key revenue-generating applications encountered in carrier networks today."
