Metaswitch Networks Report: Customers Achieve SIP Trunking Success

By Marisa Torrieri, TMCnet Editor

The market for SIP trunking is heating up, and there’s lots of competition.

And though it’s no time for network providers to rest on their laurels, at least one is celebrating its success in the fourth quarter of 2009.

According to Metaswitch Networks – which last week announced a name change reflecting its business consolidation – service providers including Birch, LightBound and Fibernetics are reporting successes with the MetaSphere platform.

The platform, a business IP trunking “solution,” interoperates with a wide range of IP-PBX (News - Alert) products while simultaneously supporting complementary hosted features like voicemail, auto-attendant, “find me follow me” and conferencing services.

“As a carrier operating multiple networks, Metaswitch allows us to derive maximum value from our extensive communications network to remain competitive,” said Tom Stachowiak, vice president of engineering for Birch communications, in a press statement. “By deploying SIP trunks to consolidate traffic, we are able to be more agile and provide greater value to our customers.”

Metaswitch Network also highlighted the success reports of ISPs that offer voice services, like LightBound. The Indianapolis-based service provider uses SIP trunking to offer VoIP and disaster-recovery services to commercial customers and healthcare organizations.

In addition to a change in its name, Metaswitch Networks last week reported 4.2 percent in revenue growth as part of its annual results for the 2008/2009 financial year ending Aug. 31.

Specifically, revenue for the company, which also has offices in Reston, Va., and Alameda, Calif., grew to $113.7 million, with operating margins sustained above 20 percent.
