MetaSwitch Providing Greenfield Deployment to Curacao

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

The demand for state-of-the-art voice over IP services has never been greater, as fiber to the home systems continues to extend in an effort to deliver increasingly popular triple play and business telephony services.

IP communications solutions player MetaSwitch (News - Alert) is one company that has been reaping the benefits of this growth and has been active in improving operational efficiencies of  IP infrastructures – as well as offering advanced voice services to residential and business subscribers in the Latin American and Caribbean markets.

Now, the company has announced it is working with Santa Barbara Utilities to provide IP services to the Santa Barbara Plantation Resort Community, a luxury hospitality project in the Southern Caribbean.

René Méndez, vice president of sales for the Caribbean and Latin America at MetaSwitch, said the company is “committed to ensuring that Santa Barbara is able to deliver carrier-class communications services that are essential for a project of this caliber."

The carrier IP communications solutions company has been extending its footprint in the Latin American and Carribean region as of late, and last month began providing its carrier Voice over IP (VoIP) solution as a replacement to existing legacy TDM switching infrastructure used by the Netherlands Antilles’ primary telecommunications service provider.

In addition, MetaSwitch struck a deal with Argentina-based strategic alliance company Technology Bureau to create d a joint sales strategy during their seminar program, titled “VoIP - Carrier Class, Next Generation Converged Solutions," last week in Buenos Aires.

The Santa Barbara Plantation is a planned mixed-use resort located on the southeastern side of Curacao. A telecommunications system is being developed for the ultimate hotel guests and resort residents.

Under the terms of the deal, MetaSwitch is providing advanced IP-based fiber to the home system to deliver a triple play of high-speed Internet access, television and residential and business telephony services including voicemail and unified communications.

"We searched the market for the best system to provide the latest in service and convenience for hotel guests and residents at the Santa Barbara Plantation," said Bert Perez, director of Santa Barbara Utilities. "We chose MetaSwitch because they offer the most complete, advanced and reliable technology for our current needs and future plans."

Curacao is an island nation of 150,000 with a land area of 171 square miles. It is the largest and most populous island in the Netherlands Antilles.
