Mobile Phone Use Driving E911 Changes
With the proliferation of mobile devices, the percentage of 911 calls coming from non-landline phones is growing on a consistent basis. Today, of all the 911 calls placed, 30 percent or less are coming from landlines tied into the existing 911 infrastructures. This has raised the visibility of E911 efforts that can help connect first responders to mobile users who need their assistance.

America's Slow Transition to Next Generation 911
In Stewart County, located in northern Tennessee, a massive lighting strike on April 5 took out most of the county's E911 equipment along with the sheriff's equipment, computer and radios. As a result, the county has decided to upgrade to Next Generation 911 equipment, even though officials are struggling to choose among a host of providers.
