911 Enable's IP-Based Solutions Adapt to Lync Server 2010

By Tammy Wolf, TMCnet Web Editor

With the proliferation of communication technology today, a better E911 solution is paramount. That’s where 911 services expert 911 Enable (News - Alert) comes in to help organizations simplify management, reduce infrastructure costs, and meet local and state E911 legislation.

Organizations deploying Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync Server 2010 can benefit from its many native E911 features, including an interface to provision locations in civic address format, layer 2 discovery for LLDP-enabled endpoints, layer 3 discovery, wireless phone discovery, and security desk notification through IM.

To take full advantage of these native E911 functionalities, Microsoft Lync users can implement additional components, which are uniquely delivered by 911 Enable.

By pairing 911 Enable’s enterprise-wide, Lync-certified E911 solution with these components, Lync Server 2010 end-users can achieve comprehensive E911 call routing capabilities, an unmatched suite of security desk routing and notification tools, as well as improved IP phone discovery elements.

911 Enable’s IP-based solutions, as well as its next-generation E911 support, and a highly experienced and professional team, are steadfast at meeting the E911 needs of the most demanding deployments by organizations. Working together with Microsoft, 911 Enable has adapted its award-winning solutions, including the Emergency Routing Service, the Emergency Gateway (News - Alert) and the Phone Discovery Manager, to provide E911 capabilities for Lync Server 2010 deployments.

As one of the industry’s first E911 call routing solutions for Lync Server 2010, the Emergency Routing Service enables organizations to seamlessly connect users to PSAPs across the U.S., while also delivering E911 calls and accurate location information to the dispatcher’s screen. The Emergency Routing Service is also the most common solution for Lync Server 2010 deployments.

911 Enable’s Emergency Gateway (EGW) provides organizations with additional E911 management features, including e-mail crisis alerts, security desk screen pop, call recording and 911 misdial protection. It also automatically tracks soft phones via layer 2 discovery, and interoperates with the Lync Server 2010 LIS to ensure that locations are assigned to the softphones.

The EGW is especially useful when it comes to organizations that require centralized E911 capabilities in a multi-vendor environment, and for organizations with a large campus that require 911 call routing through a PS-ALI. Serving as a “gateway” between Lync Server 2010 and the E911 call routing network, the Emergency Gateway converts PIDF-LO location information provided by Lync to PS-ALI, which then helps organizations to connect to the PSAP.

For organizations that simply require the ability to track their soft phones using layer 2 discovery, 911 Enable also offers the Phone (News - Alert) Discovery Manager on-site appliance.
