CommScope Announces New E911 Services That Meet FCC Guidelines

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

CommScope, a provider of infrastructure solutions for telecom networks, announced it is offering new services to wireless operators that meet Federal Communications Commission (FCC (News - Alert)) guidelines.

These new services are in response to the FCC's revised E911 compliance requirements. The new regulations require county-level instead of state-level reporting for determining E911 compliance. The FCC wants operators to meet a number of milestones. As per the first milestone, wireless operators need to demonstrate that they are on the path to full compliance.

The new CommScope E911 Compliance Testing Services, a part of the Andrew Solutions Network Applications portfolio, includes analysis of existing maintenance test records, drive-testing in selected counties to determine existing location accuracy and engineering recommendations for bringing networks into compliance.

“The FCC made significant revisions in September 2010 to the rules for compliance in reporting wireless E911 caller location accuracy, which wireless operators must achieve when locating emergency callers,” said Karl Kessenich, director, Wireless Network Solutions (News - Alert), CommScope, in a statement.

The new E911 Compliance Testing Services from CommScope are expected to assist operators to determine their current level of compliance.

“We have helped operators deploy E911 networks and meet FCC requirements since 2001, and we expect our decade of experience will be evident in the new compliance testing services,” Kessenich added.

CommScope’s location solutions enable operators to transform their location-passive networks into reliable environments that are fully location-enabled. The location solutions bring the elements to locate users across networks. The solution relays that information to emergency service providers and location-based service applications that enable new value-added services.

With GeoLENs location system products, operators can benefit from cost efficiencies, capacity and algorithm enhancements, and technology integration to address commercial and regulatory applications.

Recently, CommScope announced its new brand identity with changes in its logo and corporate identity color. The company also created a new icon that signifies “At Home, At Work and On the Go” terms to represent the three primary market segments-broadband (cable TV), enterprise and wireless-served by CommScope today.
