911 Enable and Avaya Improve On-site 911 Services and Emergency Response

By Jaclyn Allard, TMCnet Web Editor

As TMC’s (News - Alert) David Sims listed in his article, “Top Ten Reasons to Choose E911 Services from Enable,” 911 Enable (News - Alert) automates and simplifies the management tasks associated with E911, since IP phones may be tracked automatically, and comprehensive reporting and monitoring tools are accessible via a dashboard. Today’s security personnel, usually first responders to an incident and familiar faces to an organization, could use simplified 911 services to help them with their management tasks. 911 Enable and Avaya have come together to improve on-site 911 services and emergency response.

It was just in December 2010 that TMC’s Ed Silverstein wrote about 911 Enable’s Emergency Gateway (EGW) appliance successful compliance testing with Avaya (News - Alert) Aura Communication Manager 6.0 and Avaya Aura Session Manager 6.0. In a statement, Lev Deich, director of 911 Enable, said, “This compliance with Avaya Aura Communication Manager 6.0 and Avaya Aura Session Manager 6.0 reflects 911 Enable’s commitment to stay current with the latest Avaya technologies and innovations. 911 Enable’s Emergency Gateway (News - Alert) allows organizations using Avaya Aura with SIP phones to benefit from 911 Enable’s industry-leading E911 management capabilities.”

On-site security personnel are not always provided with the means to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, and to better integrate on-site security with dispatched emergency services, organizations should implement 911 Enable’s Emergency Gateway (EGW). The EGW automatically discovers the locations of IP phones, softphones, and wireless phones, whether employees are using H.323 endpoints connected to Avaya Communication Manager, or SIP endpoints directly connected to the Session Manager cluster, ensuring that when 911 is dialed, emergency responders receive the precise location of the caller regardless of endpoint type.

The EGW provides a complete suite of E911 management tools including enhanced security desk routing and notification features. One of the most useful security desk notification tools is Desk Alert, an optional component of the EGW that alerts security personnel of the precise location of the caller, the caller’s name, callback number, and links to any additional location-specific information that may be of use. 911 services will no longer be a problem for those security personnel who were once only made aware of emergencies when emergency vehicles first arrived on scene.
