Apple Outshines Competitors in Profits

By Alice Straight, TMCnet Web Editor

The competition doesn’t even come close to Apple (News - Alert) when it comes to profits.

Deutsche Bank looked at numbers from the 10 PC makers in the world and Apple came in with a margin of 36 percent for its operating profits. Apple has 7 percent of the overall revenues in the market. Operating profit is the difference between the sale price of a product and the cost to produce it.

The five-to-one ratio puts Apple far ahead of a back that includes Dell and Hewlett-Packard (News - Alert).

Apple benefits from economies created by the tight integration of hardware and software on its platform.
