Logitech Debuts the Logitech Harmony 900 Remote

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

Logitech (News - Alert) has unveiled the Logitech Harmony 900 remote, a universal remote control that comes with a wireless RF connection, and a full color touch screen which offers one touch access to easy navigation.

Logitech deals in personal peripherals and claims to drive innovation in PC navigation, Internet communications, digital music, home-entertainment control, gaming and wireless devices.

The rechargeable Logitech Harmony 900 remote makes it easy to enjoy and control users’ TV, movies, games and music – even when their components are neatly hidden behind cabinet doors. The remote comes with a sleek handheld grip and marries a traditional button remote with a capacitive touch screen for expanded functionality.

Officials have said that more and more people are staying home to watch movies on their big screen TVs and enjoy surround sound and hi-def video from the comfort of their couch. More remotes and more wires tend to be byproducts of increasingly sophisticated home-entertainment systems but the Harmony 900 is designed to simplify home entertainment. With the remote’s RF technology and ability to control up to 15 devices, users can say good-bye to the clutter while gaining better control of their devices.

The Harmony 900 remote's completely redesigned RF system makes it easy to control (up to 100 feet away) a cabinet full of devices without the hassles often associated with RF setups. Logitech says that it is easy to set up the remote to control the devices. All users have to do is place the included RF and one or two of the blasters on the shelves near the devices. Then use the remote’s touch screen to select the devices they wanted to control with RF. After the setup is complete users are free to close the doors on entertainment-system clutter and point their remote anywhere they want.

Harmony 900 is an updated version of Logitech’s previously released Harmony One remote and just like in Harmony One, 900’s number keys are on the bottom, the navigation keys are in the middle and the activity keys are near the top. The capacitive-touch color touchscreen is highly responsive, and can scroll through pages of various commands for different media console items. Only the 44 most-essential buttons appear on the Harmony 900 remote, and each of those buttons is individually sculpted, providing useful tactile cues so users can operate the remote by touch, rather than having to rely on sight.

The Logitech Harmony 900 Remote features a built in rechargeable battery and the battery will last up to a week before it needs to be recharged. It’s expected to be available in the U.S. and Europe in September for a suggested retail price of $399.99. The remote ships with a recharging cradle, rechargeable battery, power supply, IR blaster and two mini blasters. Logitech plans to make additional blasters and mini blasters available online in some regions.

Logitech had released two new iPod speaker docks and introduced the Logitech G13 Advanced Gameboard.
