Now, the company is producing PCs that will be sold in Japan under the Hitachi brand, AP reported Friday. This deal builds upon an existing relationship between the two companies; HP already provides Hitachi with servers.
The AP report quoted Hitachi spokesperson Masayuki Takeuchi as saying that the HP produced computers will be added to the Prius consumer product line, while the Flora line will be phased out. According to Takeuchi, Hitachi sells about 350,00 business PCs and roughly 140,000 consumer-line PCs each year.
As noted above, HP has been busy partnering on new products and services of late. Among the most recent deals:
+ Partnership with Trion to develop technology for that company’s next-generation, broadband games and entertainment platform. HP is providing server storage, development workstation and software technologies, interactive entertainment expertise, and global support services.
+ Partnership with FTS (a vendor of billing and CRM products) to develop network service and payment products. FTS’ Leap Billing product will be integrated and marketed with two of HP’s solutions: OpenCall Service Access Controller and OpenCall Media Platform.
+ Partnership with Spanish banking group Banco Sabadell, to develop a number of technology projects for digital signatures in financial environments and government administrations. Banco’s IT service division is being integrated into HP.
HP also recently announced a new line of support services designed to help companies get the most out of SAP ( News - Alert) by utilizing that solution’s service oriented architecture (SOA) blueprint.
Hitachi in recent weeks, too, has been busy developing new solutions. Early in January the company announced its new AVSM software, for use with digital video recording devices such as set-top boxes.
Later in the month, the Embedded Group of Hitachi America, Inc., partnered with Blue Peach on the release of the Blue Peach NAS Digital Media Server, which delivers an application-optimized platform with powerful search capabilities.
