New Cordless DECT 6.0 Phones Released Some with 900 Meter Talk Range

By Vivek Naik, TMCnet Contributor

Advanced American Telephones (AAT), phone manufacturers of AT&T (News - Alert) phones, recently released at the 2009 Digitally Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) 6.0 phones for use ranging from home to medium businesses. AMA operates under a license agreement with AT&T Intellectual Property. One product, the SEB67118, has a talk range of up to 900 meters (m), a four line corded or cordless system and push-to-talk (PTT) technology for immediate interaction between users. This announcement comes close on the heels of another innovative release in Q408 from AAT – the cordless DECT 6.0 with Bluetooth capabilities.

DECT, previously the “E” stood for European, is a European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI (News - Alert)) standard for cordless telephones, wireless broadband data transfers and also qualifies for 3G and operates in the range of 1.8 Giga Hetrz (GHz) to 1.9 GHz. In North America the operating frequencies are 0.9 GHz, 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz as per mandate. Hence, here the standard is called DECT (News - Alert) 6.0, where the 6 comes from “approximately up to 6 GHz”.
While all three of the principal phone sets available are SEB67118, CL84109 and CL82209, have quality technology and workmanship, and excellent streamlined looks, the flagship product for 2009 is undoubtedly the first one. The SB67118 system offers extensibility to 10 handsets for parallel, quick, clear communication in multi locations within a complex; zero blind-spot technology were radio signals are boosted in areas with historically weak signals; repeaters extend the talk range to 900 m. PTT, 3 way conferencing, automatic voicemail, hands-free conversations are vital time savers.
Additional features are different ring tones, 2.5mm jack headset compatibility, rapid display scroll, memory protection, a hundred minutes of recording digitally, caller identification, programmable remote accessibility, chain dialling, and redialling for the last 10 numbers contacted.   The CL84109 model offers consumers Clearspeak(TM) dial-in-base speakerphone, which has a high quality of sound.
Some complicated but fascinating and interesting history about AMA. American Bell Consumer Products (ABCP) was created as a unit of American Bell, which was one of the Bell Operating Companies (BOC) of the American Telephone & Telegraph Company, changed to Corporation, (AT&T).
Once the BOC was divested from AT&T, ABCP was renamed AT&T Consumer Products (ATTCP) and was later absorbed into AT&T Technologies (ATTT), which took over Western Electric, which was for almost a century the manufacturing wing of AT&T. Once ATTT became a part of Lucent Technologies along with Bell Labs, ATTCP was then renamed Lucent Technologies Consumer Products (LPCP). Lucent then sold its telephone manufacturing division to VTech, which is now Doing Business As (DBA or D/B (News - Alert)/A) AMA.
