New Syndiant's SYL2010, a SVGA- and WVGA-standard Microdisplay

By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Syndiant, a semiconductor company that designs and manufacturers chips for ultra-portable projectors and cell phones has reportedly been working with more than 30 customers on its SYL2010 product that is designed into portable systems using both LED and laser solid-state light sources.

The new SYL2010 is available for immediate sampling and pricing is available based on customer request. The company explains SYL2010 as a SVGA- and WVGA-standard microdisplay that targets embedded cell phones and media player pico-projectors. It provides a light modulator solution and has more than three times the pixels and is smaller than the recently introduced DLP pico-projector device.

It is said to be the first in Syndiant’s VueG8 (view-gate) family of microdisplays and has 854 x 600 pixel LCOS microsdisplay with a 0.21-inch diagonal and a package height of only 7 mm to enable extremely thin products.

Company officials said that they are receiving feedback from customers that indicates that the embedded pico-projector market is going to take off much sooner and will be much larger than has been previously forecasted.

Mark Harward, CEO of Syndiant. “Our VueG8 has been compared by customers and is found to have significant advantages in cost, power, resolution, size and image quality over competing devices. We deliver higher resolution images at lower cost and without the speckle of laser beam steering systems.”

Headquartered in Dallas, with a branch office in Taiwan, Syndiant manufactures the smallest and highest resolution light modulating chips used in ultra-portable projectors small enough to embed in a cell phone.

Its patented technologies claims to provide a large screen experience in handheld electronics, such as smartphones, notebook computers, portable media players, video game consoles and cameras.

Recently, Syndiant Inc was named as a finalist for the Emerging Company Horizon Award, presented by the Metroplex Technology Business Council (MTBC (News - Alert)). The award was presented at the Tech Titans award gala at the Marriott Dallas/Plano at Legacy Town Center.
