New Parrot MINIKIT Slim Changes Hands-Free Car Kits

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Parrot, a major player in hands-free car kits, has launched a next-generation hands-free speakerphone – the new super-slim Parrot MINIKIT Slim.

Using Parrot's latest voice recognition and DSP technology, the sleek Bluetooth car kit has user-independent voice recognition and text-to-speech capability.

The Parrot MINIKIT Slim synchronizes automatically with up to five cell phones and has a total contact capacity of 2,500 names with 1,000 names per phone. The user-independent voice recognition eliminates the need to create "voice tags" and greatly simplifies use.

The battery-powered MINIKIT Slim, weighing only 3 ounces, can be discreetly clipped to a car's sun visor or placed on a desk for up to 10 hours of talk time. It can be recharged in only four hours, and has 20 days of standby time.

"Following the market trend toward smaller and lighter products that are easier to use, our engineers went back to the drawing board to develop a sleeker, more stylist version of our original Parrot MINIKIT, integrating innovative features such as immediate voice-activated access to the telephone's commands and phonebook," says David Wenning, senior vice president, sales and marketing, in a statement.

"We think we've hit a home run with this one, and it's available in both a matte black surface and in a limited-edition floral print design for greater appeal."

Founded in 1994, Parrot has rapidly established itself as a pivotal global player for wireless mobile telephone accessories. Drawing on its tried-and-tested expertise on voice recognition and signal processing technologies, Parrot was one of the very first companies to produce Bluetooth-enabled wireless hands-free car kits, having identified this standard's vast potential as early as 1999.

Parrot has been busy developing a new range of Multimedia products since 2006, including wireless hi-fi systems and LCD photo frames. Today, Parrot truly has a major international focus, both in terms of its client base, with 86.6 percent of sales generated outside of France, and in terms of production, outsourced to carefully selected partners, enabling it to achieve the best possible level of quality and responsiveness.

Parrot has combined its audio expertise with flat panel speaker technology developed by NXT. Replacing the conventional loudspeaker used with this type of device with a flat, vibrating panel, sound is transmitted more clearly and evenly, resulting in outstanding audio quality.

NXT's commitment to inventiveness in sound and touch has enabled it to deliver new technologies already deployed in audio systems, TVs, PCs and laptops, mobile phones, PA systems, cars, aircraft and in public buildings and facilities around the world. With its unique portfolio of patented technologies and unparalleled expertise in the field of bending wave physics, NXT helps its partners invent, create and market innovative sound solutions that offer sustainable differentiation.
