Vodafone, Dell to Launch Inspiron Mini 9

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

An exciting announcement has just come out of Vodafone (News - Alert) and Dell, as the two companies are set to benefit from a strategic partnership.

The Dell (News - Alert) Inspiron Mini 9 ultra-mobile device will be sold with built-in mobile broadband exclusively through Vodafone stores and online. Dell will offer the product directly in key European markets.

The long-awaited Inspiron Mini 9 netbook will sport a 1.6 GHz Intel (News - Alert) Atom processor and Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 950. The new device will be available this month.

This latest in the Dell line will feature built-in mobile broadband from Vodafone. It is designed to deliver the highest flexibility, reliability and speed for e-mail and Internet browsing on-the-go available on the market, without a need for an additional modem.

The Inspiron Mini 9 netbook will feature a glossy 8.9 inch LED screen with a resolution of 1,240 x 600 and 1GB of RAM. It will also offer a full version of Windows XP, up to 16 GB solid state drive, three USB ports, Ethernet, audio line in and out, WiFi (News - Alert), Bluetooth, media card reader and an integrated 1.3 megapixel Webcam.

The basic netbook weighs just over one kilogram and is encased in a fashionable glossy piano black that gives it elegance and sophistication. In a few weeks, a version with Ubuntu (News - Alert) 8.04 and Dell custom interface will be available.

For consumers and professionals consistently on the go, this device will enable them to connect anytime, anywhere, whether on the road or on-the-go. Users can chat with friends or enjoy their favorite online videos and music.

Details of country availability and pricing are expected to be made available in coming weeks.

This latest product will definitely fit a niche in the market, catering to those mobile individuals who long for more power than what is currently available in a smartphone. The capabilities and the ease of operation that these latest Dell will provide will respond to a growing demand in the mobile area – bigger, better, faster.
