A survey commissioned by Xantrex Technology has reveled 54 percent of U.S. air travelers have had to sit on the floor to charge a device with an airport power outlet at least once. To help solve this problem, Duracell has introduced two portable power solutions that assist frequent flyers with their personal power needs.
The Duracell My Pocket Charger and the Duracell PowerSource Mini are both pocket-sized power sources used by popular devices including cell phones, the BlackBerry ( News - Alert), and MP3 players.
The power sources are small and versatile and are convenient for travelers who need to reduce the number of extra cords, chargers, and device-specific batteries required by their mobile devices. The My Pocket Charger comes with two Duracell CopperTop AA batteries, and the Duracell PowerSource Mini has a lithium-ion battery that can be recharged with a lightweight AC charger through the DC socket in a vehicle or a computer's USB port.
The Duracell My Pocket Charger comes in two models. One has a connector for MP3 players, providing up to 24 hours of music on the latest iPod Nano, while the other features a connector for all BlackBerries and the latest Motorola ( News - Alert) phones and provides up to one hour of talk time.
The Duracell PowerSource Mini features a mini USB pivot arm that permits users to connect directly to a device without the need for a charge cable. A second USB port allows two devices to be powered at the same time.
These days, Americans are growing increasingly connected to their mobile devices. The survey also found that 87 percent of U.S. households own a cell phone, and an estimated 88.2 million MP3 players are used. The study’s results show that 79 percent of air travelers find it important to have their own portable power for their devices while traveling. About 31 percent of respondents claim to have walked to a different terminal to find an outlet. In addition, 25 percent of air travelers were prepared to give up a first class seat in exchange for a mobile power source.
"Everyone wants their charge to last a little longer, and the Duracell My Pocket Charger and PowerSource Mini will provide the personal power insurance every road warrior needs," said Rick June, Duracell Vice President and General Manager. "Our portable devices give us the freedom to work, communicate and be entertained from almost any location. These charging solutions extend that freedom when you can't be near a power
outlet".
