By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Panasonic (News - Alert), a Japanese manufacturer of electronic and electrical products, announced the launch of its new 2008 Viera range of plasma and LCD televisions in India.

The 2008 Viera products offer better picture quality, high contrast ratios, ease of operation, enhanced sound effects and environment friendly plasma display panels with improved panel life, said the company. Viera range also features an advanced anti-reflection filter to reduce reflections from external light sources. Some of the models are provided with a slot for large-capacity Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) Cards. All the new panels are made in Japan.

The new release includes three new plasma variants: TH-50PV80 (50 inch HD ready), TH-42PV80 (42 inch HD ready), TH-42PV8 (42 inch HD ready). Panasonic also plans to introduce two full high definition models this year: TH-50PY850 (50 inches) and TH-65PY850 (65 inches).

All the newly released models are featured with Tough Under Force (TUF) glass panel, which acts as a protection for the front glass of the TV screen against impacts up to 4 joules. Additionally, they are featured with over 900 moving line picture resolution, dynamic contrast of 1,000,000:1 and an extended panel life of up to 100,000 hours, according to Panasonic.

Panasonic released four new Viera LCD variants, namely, TX-32LX800 (800 series, 32 inch), TX-37LX80 (80 series, 37 inch), TX-32LX80 (80 series, 32 inch), and TX-32LE8 (8 series, 32 inch). The company plans to introduce two more new models, in the 37-inch (full HD) and 26-inch category, this year.

Panasonic Viera LCD panel integrates IPS Alpha technology, which features 178 degree wide viewing angle and a contrast ratio of 10,000:1. Additionally, it features energy-saving backlight and Viera link for networking purpose.

Panasonic uses its V-real 3 and V-real PRO 3 technology for its upcoming flat-panel TVs. V-real is the collective name given to Panasonic black-box imaging technologies, the latest being the V-real 3 and V-real PRO 3. V-real technology was built on a combination of fast action relay HD camcorder technology and moviemaking technology developed at Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory (PHL), said the company. V-real technology is noted for its high image quality.

All the newly released products are sold through authorized Panasonic channel partners in India.
