D-Link Uses DS2 Technology for Powerline Ethernet Adapter

By Laura Stotler, TMCnet Contributing Editor

-Link is using 200 Mbps powerline communications technology from DS2 in its recently announced 200 Mbps Powerline Ethernet Adapter (DHP-300) and Kit (DHP-301). The Powerline Ethernet Adapters offer fast and reliable connectivity for next-generation multimedia applications like high-definition media streaming, music sharing and online multi-player gaming by plugging solutions into any AC wall socket to connect devices throughout the home.

The D-Link Powerline Ethernet Adapter Kit features two adapters, two Ethernet cables and an installation disk. Setup is done easily by plugging one adapter into a router and the other into any Ethernet-ready device like a PC, HDTV, digital video recorder, print server, game console, network storage unit, or one of D-Link’s family of MediaLounge Media Players.

"Home networking entertainment devices increasingly demand high bandwidth and are usually stationary and near power outlets,” said Brian Larsen, associate vice president of D-Link Systems, Inc. in Fountain Valley, Calif. “By introducing this easy-to-use and fast Powerline Ethernet Adapter and Kit we are complementing our existing range of wire and wireless products for home networking and delivering consumers a simple, cost effective solution that delivers whole home connectivity for high bandwidth applications."

"Manufacturers and service providers are standardizing on the choice of DS2's 200 Mbps chipsets to drive home networking products and services where high bandwidth, easy set up and whole home connectivity are key requirements,” said Jorge Blasco, president and CEO of DS2. “DS2 chips comply with the Universal Powerline Associations (UPA) Digital Home Standard for high-definition video, audio, voice and data applications delivered via any power outlet in the home. We are delighted to be working with D-Link to deliver simplicity and connectivity with these high speed Powerline Ethernet Adapters for the consumer market."
