VUDU Inc. has announced at the Consumer Electronics Show 2008 that the company is expanding the high-definition (HD) movies available through the VUDU box. The company will offer 70 HD movies under its video on-demand service by the end of this month and will continue expanding the movie catalog in the months to come.
"With today's announcement, VUDU is continuing to deliver on its promise to make HD content as simple and convenient for customers to enjoy as traditional formats," said Tony Miranz, VUDU's co-founder and EVP of Sales and Business Development. "As more movie fans invest in large-screen HD televisions, VUDU is pleased to provide an ever-expanding range of top-quality films formatted specifically for high quality HD viewing."
Any home network with Internet speed of at least 4 Mbps can playback HD movies instantly.
New HD releases can be rented for $5.99 and HD classics for $3.99. The latest offering includes recent releases such as A Mighty Heart, Blades of Glory, and Hostel: Part II (Unrated Version), and classics such as the Star Trek franchise.
The offering of HD titles is the latest addition to the already rich VUDU catalog, which includes more than 5,000 standard definition movies and TV shows. VUDU’s licensing agreements with leading U.S. film studios and more than 22 independent and international film distributors have enabled this collection.
