Gefen and Pulse ( News - Alert)~LINK have launched what they claim is the world’s first consumer electronics product to incorporates Pulse~LINK’s CWave UWB HDMI-Over-Coax technology.
The product allows consumers to extend the reach of HDMI from room to room over their existing in-home coax cabling. Both the companies will demonstrate the HDMI-Over-Coax technology at the 2008 CES ( News - Alert).
Hagai Gefen, president and CEO, Gefen explained that with the Gefen HDMI Over Coax Extender, which implements Pulse~LINK’s HDMI-Over-Coax technology, consumers can extend the reach of HDMI audio and video out of their family room or media room into any other room in their house.
He observed that consumers can now enjoy true HD entertainment that is visually lossless, regardless of where their content source is located.
The Gefen HDMI Over Coax Extender provides an infrared back channel. This channel enables consumers to use the same remote that controls their set-top box, DVR, Blu-ray or HD DVD player, in all rooms throughout the connected home.
In addition to offering
Gigabit data rates, the no-new-wires solution can simultaneously deliver high quality, visually lossless video along with multi-channel digital audio. The solution combines the simplicity that consumers want with the guaranteed Quality of Service they demand for a true ‘Digital Home Cinema’ experience.
“Imagine only needing to buy one Blu-ray or HD DVD player or rent one HD set-top-box for your home and being able to play your HD content on any HDTV in any room of your home – regardless of where the player is located,” said Dan Friedman, Pulse~LINK VP Marketing, in a statement.
Friedman expressed the company’s excitement about the tremendous opportunities for distributing high-bandwidth HD content anywhere in the home with the HDMI-Over-Coax solution.
“We are proud to partner with Gefen to bring HDMI-Over-Coax products to market,” he added.
The Gefen HDMI Over Coax Extender is scheduled for launch in April 2008.
Pulse~LINK is a semiconductor company that delivers production silicon with Gigabit data rates for both wired and wireless HD video distribution.
Gefen delivers just-in-time audio/video solutions for both professionals and consumers.
