China TechFaith Wireless Technology announced it shipped its GPRS/EDGE GSM mobile phone to one of Mexico's largest manufacturers of consumer electronics.
The mobile phones are customized for Telcel, one of Mexico's largest telecom operators. TechFaith (News - Alert) already shipped 50,000 units to the customer. An additional 15,000 units will be shipped in the second quarter of 2011.
TechFaith's GPRS/EDGE GSM mobile phone features a 3.0 inch LCD touch screen. The advanced phone comes with a built-in motion sensor and games. The phone supports high quality MPEG4 video, rich MP3 sound, and comes with extensive privacy and security features.
“This is another success story in the expansion of TechFaith's business worldwide,” said Deyou Dong, president and COO of TechFaith, in a statement. “Our strong capabilities at tailoring mobile phones to local markets and to carrier's specific needs have helped TechFaith win new customers and grow our business with them.”
TechFaith is planning to leverage this kind of partnership model worldwide. It is also planning to expand into key growth markets and support key new product launches in 2011. The company plans to become a branded mobile phone specialist in differentiated market segments in China market. With its brand QiGi, the company also targets enterprise users.
TechFaith is also into PC and online gaming business through its wholly owned subsidiary, 798 Entertainment.
Recently, China TechFaith Wireless Communication Technology announced its wholly owned subsidiary, QiGi Future Technology, won an order from China Telecom (News - Alert) and another order from the Jilin provincial police department.
