Samsung Captivate Contract 'Captivates' Users

By Mini Swamy, TMCnet Contributor

While the iPhone 4 is still the AT&T (News - Alert) “superphone champion”, Samsung Captivate Contract is a nice trendy Android Phone that can give the iPhone (News - Alert) a run for its money. Released in July 2010, Samsung Captivate scores over the iPhone with its 4-inch super AMOLED touchscreen with a color display of 16M and displays brighter and more accurate colors. Not only do these screens consume less power, but it has wider viewing angles and crisp display. Touch sensitive controls make the touchscreen fast and responsive. The six-axis accelerometer is very convenient for gaming and the UI auto rotate helps to change orientation very rapidly.

Captivate's 5 megapixel camera offers HD video capture but it doesn't have a flash. So although it does offer many editing options, the quality of pictures, especially indoor ones, are nothing much to speak about. However HD video clips compensate to a great extent as the quality is superb. Captivate has loads of internal memory–16 GB to be precise–with the option to expand up to 32 GB, more than enough to store videos, photos, files and all else. One disadvantage with the camera is that it is not front facing.

As far as other features are concerned, there's nothing to beat Samsung's Captivate. Armed with v2.1 Android Operating system, it scores over many other Android-powered phones. It has ARM (News - Alert) Cortex A8 1GHz processor for fast processing, a speakerphone, MP3 and MP4 player, text and multimedia messaging, voice dialing and in short, the full range of wireless options such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G and even GPS. It has standard Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery which gives a stand by talktime of 750 hours in 2G and 576 hours in 3G and talktime of 13 hours 30 minutes in 2G and 6 hours 30 minutes in 3G. It weighs around 118 grams and its size dimension is 122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9 mm. The handset is available only in black and grey, not very captivating perhaps, but the phone lines are clean and simple.
