Panasonic Introduces Lumix Cameras with New Features

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

Panasonic has introduced multiple new cameras in recent weeks beginning at the CES (News - Alert) 2011 Expo. However, they aren’t stopping there. Today, Panasonic let the public in on the new point-and- shoot camera line with a huge variety of added features and upgrades.

First out of the gate is the Lumix FX78. This camera continues with the trend of slim cameras with a touch screen.  This feature remains one of the biggest changes to the prior camera design and includes an in-camera editing option along with 1080p HD video. It has also increased its screen size, now encompassing a 3.5 inch LCD screen.

This camera can now be used no matter how much light is available as it features a 24mm ultra-wide angle lens with 5x optical zoom. Some other features offered are smart touch for auto focus, scene selection, scene tracking, and the ability to flip and drag to look through pictures.

A huge draw to this camera is the 3D capability. It works by taking about 20 pictures in a row and then combining the two for a 3D image. Although it includes a option to share videos and pictures, it does not include an immediate link to social networking sites. Instead, you can earmark the photos to upload on a later date and then use either a USB or SD card to your computer.

For those camera owners who need a camera designed for tough situations, the Lumix TS3 is for you. With a fresh design and the ability to withstand almost anything, it now includes a GPS, compass, altimeter, and barometer. If you are traveling, the TS3 will even automatically adjust to the local time.

Waterproof of up to 40 feet, shockproof up to 6 feet, freeze proof up to 14 degrees F, dust proof and even “idiot” proof, this camera was made for times when other cameras would crumble.

The camera shares the same 3D and social media features that the FX78 has, as well as the same high tech video recording. It has a 2.7 inch LCD screen and a 12.1-megapixel Hi-Speed CCD sensor.

The Lumix ZS- series boosts a 3 inch touch screen including auto zoom, auto focus, shutter, playback and browsing. The ZS-series also has the ability for GPS, even letting users share maps. Again this camera has a 3D option, and a “sharing” feature.

Recently upgraded to a 14.1-megapixel CMOS sensor, the Z3-series as well has 1080p HD video recording. This camera’s most impressive upgrades include 16x optical zoom and a much faster auto focus.

Panasonic (News - Alert) is also introducing the ZS8 camera which has a ultra-wide angle lens of 24mm and 16x optical zoom. This camera is not as snazzy as the rest, just a nicer point-and-shoot version than what was previously available.

All cameras’ expected release dates are in March.
