By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

Global Industry Analysts Inc., a reputed publisher of off-the-shelf market research, in its comprehensive global report on the digital camera market, projected the global sale of digital camera to exceed 138 million units by the year 2015. The research report titled ‘Digital Cameras: A Global Strategic Business Report’ incorporates strategic analysis of industry, key market trends, recent product launches, strategic corporate initiatives, and profiles of key market participants.

Digital cameras, having gained enormously from the digitization of consumer electronics products, have now become one of the most sought after consumer electronics products globally. Though the global economic meltdown had adversely affected the vigorous market growth, signs of recovery were being shown during late 2009 and early 2010. This could be attributed to the strong performance in the single lens reflex (SLR) segment and intense growth across budding regional markets along with the soaring demand for touchscreen and HD cameras.

The enhanced quality of photographs taken through Single Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras, contributes immensely to their rapid growth in the digital cameras market. Extensive expansion opportunities are presented by digital SLRs market owing to digitization, easy usage, falling prices, and robust demand in emerging markets.

Consumer interest in novel technologies such as touch screen user interface, HD video, wireless connectivity, advanced image detection technologies, and advanced zoom lenses have considerably influenced the market trends.

Major share of the global market, as stated by the new market research report on digital cameras, is accounted for by the United States, Europe and Asia-Pacific. Some of the industry giants featured in report include Canon Inc., Casio Computer Co., Ltd., Eastman Kodak Company, Fujifilm Corporation, Hewlett-Packard Company, Nikon Corporation, Olympus Corporation, Panasonic (News - Alert) Corporation, Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd, Seiko Epson Corporation, Sigma Corp., Sony Corporation, and Toshiba America Inc. A boom in the demand for digital cameras is likely to be witnessed in Asia-Pacific region, led by the rising income levels and growing affluence of consumers.
